KSDWP LLP appears in $10-million commercial case

Bennett Jones, Torys, BLG, Dickinson Wright, Lenczner Slaght, Miller Thomson, Paliare Roland, and Stikeman Elliott made appearances in multiple commercial list matters before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice this past week.

Last week’s most notable commercial suit was the $10-million case Rutmet Inc. v TransAsia Private Capital Limited et al. Kagan Shastri DeMelo Winer Park LLP managing partner Rahul Shastri represented plaintiff Rutmet Inc. He handles commercial leasing and general commercial litigation. TransAsia Private Capital Limited and six other defendants appeared to be unrepresented.

Bennett Jones LLP appeared in six cases

Robert Staley, vice chair and partner, advised plaintiff M. Kassam in Kassam v Stafford et al and acted for plaintiff York Region Vacant Land Condominium Corporation No. 1010 in York Region Vacant Land Condominium Corporation No. 1010 v Marcello et al. He focuses on complex commercial and securities litigation.

Joseph Blinick, partner, represented Killam Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust and four other applicants in Killam Apartment Real Estate Investment Trust et al. He focuses on securities matters, class actions, and bankruptcy.

Jamie Ernst, associate, acted for BZAM Ltd. and eight other applicants in BZAM Ltd. et al v Pure Sunfarms Corp. et al. Ernst has a general insolvency and restructuring practice.

Joshua Foster, associate, represented Kingsett Mortgage Corporation and one other applicant in Kingsett Mortgage Corporation et al v Vandyk – Uptowns Limited et al. He focuses on the financial restructuring of distressed companies.

Sarah Whitmore, partner, represented CLEAResult Canada Inc. and one other applicant in CLEAResult Canada Inc. et al v Santomero et al. She is practice group leader of the firm’s litigation department.

Stacey Reisman, senior associate, advised plaintiff Zentek Ltd. in Zentek Ltd. v Eveleigh et al. Reisman focuses on complex commercial litigation and securities law.

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP appeared in three cases

Denise Bambrough, partner, acted for The Aviva Insurance Company of Canada as a respondent in MCAP Financial Corporation v Vandyk-Backyard Kings Mill Limited et al and in the Kingsett Mortgage case. She handles construction and surety bond disputes.

James MacLellan, partner, represented The Trisura Guarantee Insurance Company as a respondent in the Kingsett Mortgage case. He advises sureties on complex insolvency and risk mitigation matters.
