Keenan Hohol appointed general counsel at Covenant Energy

Covenant Energy has announced on June 15 the appointment of its new general counsel, Keenan Hohol, who is equipped with over two decades of experience in international legal and commercial advisory work and in the minerals exploration, development and production industry.

According to his LinkedIn page, Hohol has served as strategic advisor at ValOre Metals Corp., a uranium, precious metals and PGM exploration company; as strategic advisor and general counsel at Covenant Energy Ltd., a Saskatchewan-based renewable diesel fuel development company; and as acting general counsel at DeepGreen Metals Corp., a B.C.-based seabed polymetallic minerals exploration and development company.

At Pan American Silver Corp., Hohol has been of counsel, general counsel and deputy general counsel, roles in which he assisted senior management and the board with corporate business planning, strategy development and execution and dealt with legal and regulatory matters.

Hohol has also acted as general counsel and vice president, legal at Silver Standard Resources Inc.; as interim general counsel, corporate secretary and vice president legal - Canadian and European operations at Walter Energy, Inc.; as general counsel, exploration at BHP Billiton; and as global head of legal at Western Coal Corp. He has been a director of Aftermath Silver Ltd. and of Genesis Metals Corp.

Hohol has also worked as a partner and as a member of the global mining group and Asia practice groups at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Vancouver; as a lawyer at Baker & McKenzie in Toronto and in Kyiv, Ukraine; as a foreign associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York, U.S.; as an associate at Lang Michener LLP in Vancouver; and as a student-at-law and associate at Duncan Craig LLP in Edmonton.

Hohol’s work with firms has focused on the practice areas of public and private M&A, corporate and commercial transactions, joint ventures, corporate finance and securities and mineral exploration agreements. He obtained his JD at the University of British Columbia in 1994.

Covenant Energy announced in the same news release the appointments of Everett Rueve as senior advisor, engineering and operations; Mike Corr as senior advisor, commercial operations; and Mark Roe as senior advisor, feedstock and supply.

“Covenant Energy welcomes these important appointments that add deep knowledge and experience across its executive leadership team as it moves forward” with its renewable diesel fuel project valued at $500 million, said the company in its news release.
