Roundup of law firm hires, promotions, departures: October 28, 2024 update

Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG)

BLG has welcomed Cecilia Hoover as a partner in its disputes group and Haig Oghigian as senior counsel. Hoover served as a managing partner of the Calgary office of a national insurance firm. She brings 20 years of national dispute experience in complex commercial disputes in various industries, including insurance, construction and health care.

Oghigian is experienced as an international arbitrator and arbitration counsel. He has appeared before and sat as an arbitrator on panels and arbitral courts across Europe, Asia and North and South America, and has extensive experience in various arbitral venues. He has appeared in over 50 cases as both counsel and arbitrator before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Japan Commercial Arbitration Association (JCAA), and the American Arbitration Association (AAA), among other institutions. He has over 30 years of experience as counsel in commercial disputes (joint venture agreements, distribution agreements, licencing agreements, etc.), construction and engineering, M&A, pharmaceuticals and life sciences.

McMillan LLP

McMillan has recently welcomed Sharon Singh as a partner in Vancouver, specializing in environmental and Indigenous law.

Christopher Keliher has also joined the firm as a partner in Calgary, working in the areas of restructuring, insolvency, and financial services.

Singleton Urquhart Reynolds Vogel LLP

Alberts Krige has joined the firm as an associate in its commercial, business litigation and insurance practice groups. Before joining the firm, Krige was a litigation associate at a Vancouver insurance law firm. Before his call to the bar of British Columbia, Krige was called to the South African Bar in 2012, where he represented clients in trials, motions, and appeals in courts across the country. As a barrister in South Africa, he enjoyed a diverse litigation practice encompassing the fields of commercial, property, tax, banking or credit, insurance, contract, and personal injury law.
