Roundup of law firm hires, promotions, departures: July 22, 2024 update

Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.

Aird & Berlis LLP

The firm has welcomed new partner Ryan Evans and associate Anna Lu. Evans has joined the firm as a member of its intellectual property, litigation, and dispute resolution groups. He handles enforcement and infringement cases and has extensive experience in patent, trademark and design, copyright, and trade secret matters.

Lu specializes in municipal and land use planning law. She advises clients on various municipal and land use planning strategies and issues, including property tax appeals and expropriations.

Clark Wilson LLP

The firm has announced that Daniel Gorelov has been promoted from an articled student to associate with the firm’s family law group. His services include cohabitation agreements, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, marriage agreements, separation agreements, divorce, property division, spousal support, child support, custody and guardianship, and parenting arrangements.

Dentons

Alexandre-Philippe Avard has rejoined the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution group. Avard has significant expertise in energy, natural resources, mining, and Indigenous law. He originally joined the firm in 2012 as an associate and was admitted to the partnership in 2015, after which he played an important role within the Montréal litigation and dispute resolution group. He returned to Dentons after spending five years as an in-house counsel.

DLA Piper Canada LLP

DLA Piper (Canada) LLP has welcomed Regan Christensen to its Calgary office as part of the litigation, ‎arbitration ‎and investigations group.‎ ‎ Christensen’s practice will focus primarily on investigations and litigation related to fraud, bribery, corruption, ‎compliance, and white-collar crime. He will also maintain a broad commercial litigation and ‎alternative dispute resolution practice. ‎He has represented many clients, from major banks and public institutions to small and medium-sized businesses. ‎ Regan practised law in Ontario for six years before moving to Alberta in June 2022. Before joining DLA ‎‎Piper Canada, Regan worked as a commercial litigator in the Calgary office of a prominent regional law ‎firm‎‎. ‎

The firm has also welcomed Prince Arora to its tax group. He specializes in tax planning and tax dispute resolution. He has experience advising clients on the tax aspects of domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring and reorganizations, structuring inbound and outbound investments, and corporate financing and capital market transactions. He has previously served as a judicial law clerk at the Tax Court of Canada. Arora is currently on the steering committee of the Canadian Tax Foundation Young Practitioners.

McMillan LLP

The firm has recently welcomed partner Ryan Schwartz and associate Emily Dishart.

SV Law

Ritu Singh has joined SV Law’s family law practice group in the firm’s Guelph office. Singh’s expertise extends to courtroom litigation and alternative dispute resolution methods.
