Young people want a better understanding of the law
The desire of the younger generations to fully understand how democracy and the world works includes a quest for greater understanding of the law.
That’s a key finding of a survey conducted for the Bar Council, the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) and the Law Society of England and Wales & Wales.
It reveals that more than half of respondents aged 18-24 said they would like more emphasis on learning about the law in schools.

“It is important to educate everyone including young people about how the law works and about their rights,” said Law Society president Simon Davis. “Very often members of the public struggle even to identify a problem as a legal issue, so are not inclined to seek specialist advice.”
The poll also revealed that just 18% of young people thought democracy was improving while 34% are concerned that they appear to have less freedom.
As many as 84% said that it was very important for ordinary people to understand how the law works, and 88% felt that it was also essential for politicians to understand the workings of the law.
Dentons launches combination with South Korean firm
Global firm Dentons’ combination with South Korean firm Lee International has officially launched.
The previously announced tie-up makes Dentons the first global law firm to combine with a Korean one. The local firm will continue to be owned and operated by Koreans.
"Dentons' strategy is to scale the firm through whole firm combinations with philosophically aligned firms in dynamic and growing regions,” said Joe Andrew, Global Chairman of Dentons. “In my many visits to Korea and dealings with Korean law firms, it was clear that Lee International shared our vision to always be the law firm of the future and Dentons is now the first global law firm to combine with a Korean law firm."
