SK Provincial Court welcomes Cynthia Alexander, Lori O’Connor, and Buffy Rodgers as new judges

The Saskatchewan government has announced the appointment of Cynthia Alexander, Lori O'Connor, and Buffy Rodgers as judges to the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan.

Judge Alexander earned her law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996 and was called to the bar in 1997. She began her career at Woloshyn & Company (now W Law) in Regina before transitioning to a crown prosecutor role in Prince Albert, where she became a senior crown prosecutor in 2008. In 2022, she moved to Regina's head office of public prosecutions, focusing on professional development.

Judge Alexander's experience includes prosecuting criminal matters, mentoring legal professionals, and lecturing at institutions such as the University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Judge O'Connor obtained her law degree from Dalhousie University in 2008 and was called to the bar in 2009. After starting her legal career with Legal Aid in Manitoba, she joined Saskatchewan Public Prosecutions in 2010 and rose to regional crown prosecutor in Melfort in 2019.

Specializing in criminal law, Judge O'Connor has actively mentored law students and trained professionals in court procedures. She also contributes book reviews to the Canadian Law Library Review.

Judge Rodgers earned her law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1998 and was called to the bar in 1999. She completed her articles with Wardell Worme & Missens in 1999 and continued as a junior lawyer until 2001. Between 2001 and 2006, Judge Rodgers held several roles, including serving as legal counsel at Legal Aid Saskatchewan and as a partner at Wardell Driedger Cotton & Rodgers, later becoming Wardell Gillis Tangjerd & Cotton. She later joined the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice and Attorney General as crown counsel and advanced to senior crown prosecutor with Saskatchewan Public Prosecutions in 2007. Since 2015, she has served as senior crown prosecutor specializing in occupational health and safety.

Judge Rodgers has developed expertise in various legal areas, including criminal defence, child protection, civil law, small claims and legal aid.

Judge Alexander will serve in Regina, while Judges O'Connor and Rodgers will preside in Prince Albert. In a statement, Justice Minister and Attorney General Tim McLeod expressed confidence in the appointments, "Saskatchewan prides itself on its record of appointing highly skilled legal professionals to our judiciary, and I am confident these new appointees to the Provincial Court will carry on this tradition in their communities."
