Caplansky’s Deli, the five-year-old downtown Toronto resto celebrating classic Jewish deli food has revamped its menu.
As part of a family that has fed Torontonians for four generations, Caplansky’s new menu pays homage to the most important people in his life, says delimeister Zane Caplansky.
In addition to the new “Fat Sam’s Grand Slam” named after his grandfather Sam Hershorn, among other delights dedicated to family members, Caplansky’s has introduced the “Honest Lawyer” sandwich.
And which lawyer, you ask, is so honoured with both that epithet and a tasty sarnie?
It’s Jeff Singer, a partner at Stikeman Elliott LLP in Toronto.
Caplansky says he’s doing what he can to soften the blow of lawyer jokes by paying homage to his counsel.
“Jeff Singer is a mensch,” says Caplansky. “The Honest Lawyer sandwich is my way of thanking him for everything he’s done for us.”
It’s all Singer’s favourites on one plate: open faced smoked turkey on challah with kishke, gravy, and cranberry sauce. It’s a bit like Thanksgiving on a plate and “it would make a real mess if he spilled it on his lawsuit.”
