Over 40 lawyers will be part of the merged entity
Cox & Palmer and Benson Buffett have announced they will merge on February 1, 2025.
The combination will birth one of the biggest full-service firms in Newfoundland & Labrador, operating under the Cox & Palmer brand. Over 40 lawyers will be part of the new entity.
“This merger marks a significant milestone for both firms, and our larger platform positions us to better serve St. John’s and the rest of the province,” Cox & Palmer CEO George Cooper, KC said.
The merger is also expected to strengthen Cox & Palmer’s market position.
“This is an exciting moment for both of our firms. By coming together as one firm, we are not only expanding our capabilities but also deepening our commitment to delivering exceptional value and service to our clients,” managing partner Todd Stanley, KC said in a statement.
Moreover, the move is anticipated to create innovation, growth, and collaboration opportunities, as well as bolster Cox & Palmer’s connections to the community.
“We share a common vision for legal excellence in our region, and a culture of collaboration, which will be even stronger as we work together. We are confident that together, we can achieve even greater success while continuing to provide the high standard of legal services our clients rely on,” Benson Buffett managing director Katrina Gibbons said.
Both firms explained that while physical office arrangements had not yet been finalized, they were working on a smooth transition that minimized disruption to clients.
