Borden Ladner Gervais LLP has elected corporate and securities specialist Melinda Park as its Calgary regional managing partner.

Park takes the mantle on July 1. She has been with the firm for over two decades.

Park was the first woman to chair BLG's partnership board. She was a board member for six years and was part of the regional and national management committees, helping to mould the firm's strategy, talent development and operations.

"Melinda brings a strong combination of legal acumen, leadership experience and important community engagement that makes her the ideal choice to lead our Calgary office," said David Di Paolo, BLG’s incoming national managing partner and CEO, in a statement. "Her strong relationships with clients and colleagues, along with her commitment to the city’s growth and well-being, will continue to strengthen BLG’s presence in Calgary and across Canada."

Park will spearhead the BLG's meeting of its strategic goals and objectives in Calgary as regional managing partner. She looks to strengthen client relationships and local talent investment.

The Lexpert-ranked lawyer will continue to practise within the firm's corporate and capital markets group, tackling mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions and corporate governance matters. She was named a King's Counsel last year in Alberta.

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) launched the Melinda Park Leadership Award last year in her honour. Park was on SAIT's board of governance as chair and vice chair.

She was presented with the Calgary Influential Women in Business Award for Professional Services in 2021. Moreover, she assisted Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre with bolstering trauma-informed care and the development of responsive systems for children, youth, and families. Currently, she sits on the Calgary Chamber of Commerce board.

Park's predecessor as Calgary regional managing partner is Alan Ross, who led the office for nine years. Earlier this month, BLG also announced Hélène Deschamps Marquis as its new artificial intelligence practice lead.
