Borden Ladner Gervais names David Di Paolo national managing partner and CEO

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP’s partnership board has named David Di Paolo its incoming national managing partner and CEO.

Di Paolo, who was the national group head of the firm’s disputes team, will step into his new role on July 1. He takes over from John Murphy.

“After a rigorous succession planning process and consultation with partners at the firm, the Partnership Board has selected an exceptional new leader whose client-first philosophy and strategic acumen will drive BLG’s next chapter,” BLG partnership board chair Gus Karantzoulis said in a statement. “David’s track record of leadership excellence, combined with his extensive experience advising key clients on risk management and complex disputes, positions him ideally to lead BLG into the future.”

Di Paolo has been with BLG for over 25 years. He sat on the firm’s partnership board and national management committee.

His practice focused on securities and capital markets litigation. He has defended securities regulatory investigations and proceedings on behalf of major corporations.

Di Paolo has advised on securities class actions, unpaid wages class actions and investor loss class actions. He has also handled securities litigation and regulation, including broker liability and departing broker litigation, as well as investigations and proceedings before Provincial Securities Commissions, IIROC and the MFDA.

As national managing partner and CEO, Di Paolo will collaborate with the BLG leadership team and the board to facilitate a smooth transition into the position. He said that his vision for the firm “centres on strengthening BLG’s dedication to providing our clients with premium advice and exceptional service while maintaining our strong firm culture.”

“In today’s dynamic business environment, clients need trusted advisors who consistently deliver excellence while adapting to emerging challenges. We will continue to embrace innovation, and maintain the highest standards of legal expertise to ensure our clients’ ongoing success,” he said in a statement.

Last month, BLG strengthened its partnership with the promotion of 26 lawyers across its offices in Calgary, Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, and Ottawa.
