Richard M. Bogoroch is the founder and managing partner of Bogoroch & Associates LLP. He has over 35 years of experience practising personal injury and medical malpractice litigation. Richard is regarded as a leading personal injury lawyer and has been recognized by the Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory (since its inception in 1997) and by The Best Lawyers in Canada, two leading Peer Review lawyer rating guides. Since 1993, Richard has been certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation.
Richard graduated from McGill University Law School with a B.C.L. in 1978 and a LL.B. in 1979. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 1980 and the Ontario Bar in 1983. In 1995, he completed the Harvard Mediation Workshop sponsored by The Advocates’ Society.
Richard is a past Director of the Ontario Centre for Advocacy Training, a past Director of The Advocates’ Society (1994-98) and a past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association – Ontario Provincial Committee on the Judiciary. He is also a member of the Toronto Lawyers Association, the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto, the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, The Advocates’ Society and the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association.
Richard has lectured and written extensively on many aspects of personal injury litigation, brain injury litigation, medical malpractice, and chronic pain litigation, for Continuing Legal Education Programs organized by the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, The Advocates’ Society, the Ontario Bar Association (formerly the Canadian Bar Association) and Osgoode Hall Law School’s Professional Development Program. He has also been an instructor for the Law Society of Ontario’s Bar Admission Course and Osgoode Hall Law School’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop. Since 1984, he has chaired, co-chaired and/or has spoken at over 100 programs of continuing legal education focused on various aspects of personal injury litigation, brain injury litigation, medical malpractice litigation and chronic pain litigation. Notably, he was the Co-Chair (2011-14) of The Advocates’ Society annual Personal Injury Program, Tricks of the Trade. In addition, since 2005, Richard has chaired or co-chaired the Annual Update in Personal Injury Litigation, organized by Osgoode Hall Law School’s Professional Development Program.
From 2013-2016, Richard was appointed by the Government of Canada to serve as a Director of the Patented Medicines Prices Review Board (PMPRB), an independent board established by Parliament in 1987 under the Patent Act to protect the interests of Canadian consumers by ensuring that the prices of patented medicines sold in Canada are not excessive.
In 2015, Richard was honoured by the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association with the Dean Edgell Award for his significant contribution and excellence in legal writing, continuing legal education, and leadership activities.
