Canada's best personal injury boutiques keep pace with civil litigation reforms and AI adoption

Top 20 personal injury law firms for 2025 unveiled by Canadian Lawyer

This year’s best personal injury law firms in Canada have stood strong during this period of swift technological and legislative changes and adapted to new barriers facing injured parties seeking compensation.

Canadian Lawyer’s top 20 personal injury boutiques for 2025 are staunch advocates for innocent accident victims to get access to justice and the fair and reasonable compensation that they deserve amid a historic shift in damages for fatality claims, contemplated civil litigation reforms, increasingly complex claims, case backlogs, and AI adoption in legal practice.

“We approach every file knowing that the everyday person, our client, may not get the benefit of the doubt,” says Aaron Waxman, founder and principal lawyer of Aaron Waxman & Associates. “So we have to work harder to build the case, to marshal the evidence, and to tell that client’s story with clarity and credibility.”

“We never put ourselves before the client, in such things as trying to settle too early, settling for less than a reasonable amount, or talking the client into a conclusion before it’s truly reasonable,” says Raymond F. Wagner, founder and principal of Wagners Law Firm.

“When somebody retains us, they’ve put their faith in us,” says Dale Orlando, principal partner of McLeish Orlando LLP. “We’ve accepted this great responsibility, and we have to meet that challenge.”

“The world is changing; we have AI and social media,” says Rose Leto, partner at Neinstein Personal Injury Lawyers. “At our firm, we’ve recognized that, and we’re adapting our litigation and the role of our lawyers to meet the changing needs of society.”

Auto insurance changes

One change the country faces in the terrain of personal injury law is the looming shift to Ontario’s auto insurance scheme.

“With the changes to the accident benefits schedule set for July 2026 and the proposals to completely revamp the Rules of Civil Procedure, the practice as we know it will be forever changed,” says Richard Bogoroch, managing partner of Bogoroch & Associates LLP.

“We’ve looked at the proposed new rules for the civil litigation process, and we share a concern: if the intent is to push more cases through the system faster, that’s going to hurt clients with complex, serious injuries,” says Stephen D’Agostino, managing partner of Thomson Rogers LLP.

“While the changes will have an effect on the procedural aspects of personal injury litigation, they will not affect how we approach our cases, and the rule changes will not affect our ability to deliver exceptional legal representation to our clients,” says Robert Durante, partner at Oatley Vigmond LLP.

Meanwhile, British Columbia is already operating under a no-fault accident benefits model, with Alberta intending to shift to a similar system in 2027.

This year’s award winners include Aaron Waxman and Associates, Bogoroch & Associates LLP, Boland Romaine LLP, James H.
