Uncover how a client-first mindset drives this award-winning firm's ongoing success
Canadian Lawyer has once again named McLeish Orlando LLP as one of Canada’s Top Personal Injury Boutiques for 2025 – a recognition Partner Patrick Brown says is more than just a title: “It means so much because it means that we're doing a good job. And so, we're going to celebrate this as a team, as we do for everything.”
In a recent interview with Canadian Lawyer TV, Brown attributed the firm’s consistent success to a deeply client-focused, collaborative approach. From legal assistants to accident benefits coordinators to partners, every case at McLeish Orlando is handled by a dedicated team. “If the lawyer and the team don’t understand who that client is and what they’re facing,” he explained, “they're not going to be able to get the compensation that person needs… Our goal really is to get them recovered, to move forward in life and get back to the things they enjoyed.”
Brown also spoke passionately about the growing challenges in the personal injury sector, from courtroom delays to concerns over eroding rights to sue. “Justice delayed can be justice denied,” he warned, emphasizing the need for systemic reform and greater judicial resources. He also flagged upcoming changes to accident benefits and stressed the importance of public education to ensure consumers make informed coverage decisions.
Another key concern he raised is the threat to accountability in jurisdictions where the right to sue has been restricted. “That doesn’t work well,” Brown cautioned. “You need some accountability in the system. If a drunk driver hits and renders somebody a quadriplegic… that person should be held accountable.” He pointed to Ontario’s current system as an example of effective balance – one that ensures victims can seek fair and reasonable compensation.
