Five law firms made announcements
Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.
Jonathan Hillson joined the firm as a partner in Edmonton. He is experienced in construction, contractual, and insurance law dispute resolution. He has advocated for clients in construction law cases, builder’s lien claims, contractual disputes, insurance coverage disagreements, and bodily injury claims.
The firm announced that the Manitoba government has appointed one of its partners, Sofia Mirza, to the Advisory Council on Economic Immigration and Settlement.
At the firm, Mirza advises on all aspects of global mobility and immigration law matters. She assists commercial and individual clients on entry to Canada. Specifically, she covers the following matters:
The Toronto-based firm welcomed Paul Schwartzman as a partner in its employment and labour law practice, effective July 5. Schwartzman has represented hundreds of clients, including both employers and employees, in employment-related litigation, grievance arbitrations, labour board hearings, and human rights applications.
The Ontario bar admitted Schwartzman in 2013. Schwartzman previously worked at Brauti Thorning LLP.
Thomas McInerney became a partner in the firm’s business law group and energy and resources group in Calgary. He is a commercial transactional lawyer who helps clients face their challenges and capitalize on opportunities in the power and renewable energy sectors within and beyond Canada.
“From the development, construction and financing of exciting and transformational projects, to the managing of their projects’ social and environmental impacts, [McInerney] has the expertise, experience and foresight to mitigate risks and add value,” said Olivia Colic, managing partner for the Alberta region, in the firm’s news release.
Jesse Brodlieb joined the firm’s tax practice group as a partner. He used to work as a lawyer at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP and as a partner at Dentons Canada LLP.
In 2018, he founded Brodlieb Legal, where he and his team focused on advising high-net-worth families, owner-managers, and entrepreneurs on corporate and personal tax and succession planning issues. These included business structures, tax planning and private company tax, wealth preservation, and trusts, wills, and estates matters.
“Wildeboer Dellelce offered our team the ideal platform to take our practice to the next level,” Brodlieb said in the firm’s news release. “By adding the strength of our tax team to the already strong group at the firm we will have a great opportunity to expand our service offering to meet clients’ ever-changing needs.”
The firm also welcomed Adam Solomon as a tax lawyer and Lori Pereira as a tax law clerk.
“As new members of our firm, they will strengthen our Corporate Tax Department, our Corporate Services Department and the overall service offerings of our firm,” said Perry Dellelce, the firm’s managing partner, in the news release. “Our clients and our lawyers will benefit by this key strategic addition to the Wildeboer Dellelce Team.”
