Ceccarelli embraces culture of collaboration at Montreal-based global software provider
Sabrina Ceccarelli has joined Lightspeed HQ as assistant general counsel – commercial, effective April 26.
Ceccarelli will lead the North American commercial legal team for Lightspeed – a Montreal-based global provider of point-of-sale and e-commerce software. Bringing seven years of experience from Siemens where she provided support for a diverse portfolio of project and product offerings, Ceccarelli is well positioned to manage commercial and contractual work for the North American sector for Lightspeed.
“First and foremost, Lightspeed is such a great Canadian success story,” says Ceccarelli. “I wanted to be more specialised in the technology sector specifically, and this new role is a very good segue from what I was doing at Siemens.” She also values Lightspeed’s diverse, inclusive and collaborative culture.

“There is a focus on excellence in terms of performance but also a very collaborative environment that’s dealing with cutting edge issues every day, so it’s a great place to be for the growth and development of one’s career,” says Ceccarelli.
Ceccarelli is happy to be to learning from and working alongside the rest of the almost 20-person legal team at Lightspeed which includes Daniel Micak, the company’s executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. She also looks forward to liaising with different business teams within the organization.
“Even as a lawyer you can become a bit of an expert in the business because you’re constantly learning from your business counterparts,” says Ceccarelli. “I always view this legal relationship as one of a partnership with a common goal, rather than the traditional role of gatekeeper, so I’m really looking forward to that spirit of collaboration and that drive to achieve continued success as a team.”
Lightspeed was founded in 2005 by Dax Dasilva who also serves as the CEO of the company which now has offices in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Europe, Australia and New Zealand. It is a cloud-based technology partner with over 100,000 customer locations worldwide. The growth of the legal team will help support Lightspeed’s ongoing global expansion plan.
Prior to her role at Lightspeed, Ceccarelli was senior legal counsel at Siemens where her role included commercial contracting, higher-value and novel commercial contracts, technological topics, procurement contracts, strategic partnership agreements, and R&D agreements. She has also worked in corporate law at Torys LLP and Borden Ladner Gervais LLP.
