Osler has appointed (Ricco) A.S. Bhasin, former co-head of Torys LLP’s financial services transaction group, as financial institution transactions co-chair.
Bhasin joins the corporate partnership in Toronto and New York. He brings experience with Canada/US cross-border transactions.

Bhasin has advised on public and private mergers and acquisitions, private equity and pension fund investments, and joint ventures and partnerships. His work focuses on the banking and financial services sector.
He has worked with boards and senior leadership on governance, proxy and activist investor issues, and ESG matters. He has also advised banks, private equity/pension funds, insurance companies, and asset managers.
A Lexpert-ranked lawyer, Bhasin has handled major transactions like domestic, US and international loyalty programs, partnerships, asset and wealth management, insurance, bank and bancassurance transactions. He has tackled material cross-border and international deals involving New York or other US or international laws.
He is called to the bar in Ontario (2006) and New York (2009). He obtained ICD.D certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is conversant in Punjabi and Hindi.
Bhasin spent nearly 14 years at Torys; last year, he was part of the team that acted as Canadian counsel to Scotiabank on a $3.8 billion deal. He also logged stints at Stikeman Elliott and Dechert.
He is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and CIFC. At present, he is a Western Law BIPOC Mentorship Program mentor. He also served as vice chair of the William Osler Health System board and is presently a Sunnybrook Foundation board member.
