Harbor – a service provider within the legal industry, including law firms, corporations, and their law departments – has announced Zena Applebaum as its new senior vice president of market development.

In her new role, Applebaum will lead proposition marketing and strategy and will report directly to Kaye Sycamore, the company’s chief revenue officer, said a news release from the company.

“Her expertise in proposition marketing and competitive intelligence, and her resilient connections throughout the legal industry make her an ideal fit for our leadership team,” said Sycamore in the news release.

“The 360-degree view she brings of the legal ecosystem is invaluable as we evolve Harbor solutions enabling firms to transform service delivery and supporting legal operations in accelerating the speed of business,” Sycamore added.

Applebaum expressed her enthusiasm for the new role. “Having worked with many Harbor team members previously as a colleague, a partner, and a client, I know I am joining a crew with the highest caliber of talent, a commitment to client service, and an opportunity to deliver capabilities that will be game-changing for the industry,” she said in the news release.

Broad legal industry experience

Applebaum brings over 20 years of experience in competitive intelligence, law practice management, proposition strategy, and product marketing to Harbor. She previously worked as vice president of product marketing at Thomson Reuters. During her tenure, she helped launch generative AI enhancements in Westlaw and Practical Law and other legal technology solutions.

Applebaum’s contributions to the competitive intelligence field include serving on the advisory board for Decipher, a competitive intelligence provider. She also led competitive intelligence teams at Bennett Jones LLP and McCarthy Tétrault LLP.

For her efforts, Applebaum has held the distinction of becoming a fellow of the College of Law Practice Management in 2023 and of the Council of CI Fellows in 2015. She has also been an instructor in the Tech MBA program at the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto.

“AI is having a fundamental impact on the legal landscape, in an industry previously insulated from significant shifts,” Applebaum said in the news release. “Harbor has a critical role to play in helping law firms and law departments navigate this moment to a future in which they can thrive.”
