Christina Thomson named general counsel at Sierra Oncology

Sierra Oncology, Inc. has announced the appointment of Christina Thomson as general counsel.

Thomson is an experienced legal executive who has provided strategic, transactional and intellectual property advice as general counsel for public, private and non-profit life sciences companies such as Athira Pharma, Infectious Disease Research Institute, APT Pharmaceuticals and Avigen.

Based in a Vancouver, B.C., Sierra Oncology is a late stage drug development company that is focused on registering and commercializing momelotinib, which aims to address myelofibrosis, a rare type of bone marrow cancer.

“{Christina’s} experience makes her the ideal person to lead our legal functions and will be especially valuable as we prepare for top-line results from the Phase 3 MOMENTUM trial and the potential commercialization of momelotinib,” said Dr. Stephen Dilly, president and chief executive officer of Sierra Oncology.

Thomson, principal attorney and founder of Thomson Law PLLC, is licensed to practice law in California and Washington. Since 1998, she has been registered to practice with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She previously trained as a patent attorney at Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP.

“I look forward to working closely with this accomplished team as we focus on bringing a new treatment option to the myelofibrosis community and prepare for our potential transition into a commercial organization,” Thomson said.

Before embarking on a legal career, Thomson was a scientist at Myriad Genetic Laboratories, where she assisted in troubleshooting and validating the data analysis process for the launch of the BRACAnalysis test. She holds a master’s degree in biology.
