Lawyer in Diddy case targets US firm Quinn Emanuel in harassment suit

The lawyer for the alleged victims in the Sean "Diddy" Combs case, Tony Buzbee, has sued US firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan on the grounds of harassment, reported Reuters.

Buzbee claimed that Quinn Emanuel dispatched private investigators to harass his colleagues at Buzbee Law Firm, his family, and both existing and former clients on behalf of an anonymous celebrity linked to Combs. The lawyer said in a statement published by Reuters that his daughter had bee approached by individuals requesting “controversial, salacious or disparaging information.”

The suit filed in Harris County, Texas, district court seeks a court order prohibiting Quinn Emanuel and other parties from communicating with people connected to Buzbee Law Firm, in addition to blocking Quinn Emanuel from conducting surveillance on Buzbee Law Firm, its employees, and their families.

Buzbee is also asking for unspecified monetary damages. He said in a statement published by Reuters that Quinn Emanuel engaged in “outrageous litigation gamesmanship” for a client Buzbee had sent a demand letter to last month.

“The tactics used by Quinn Emanuel's shadowy investigators are abusive and out of control. This conduct is egregious and unethical. We are asking the court to stop it,” he wrote in an email statement published by Reuters.

Last month, Quinn Emanuel had filed a complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Buzbee and his Houston-based firm for client described as a celebrity and public figure based in Los Angeles. According to Quinn Emanuel’s suit, Buzbee had falsely alleged that this client raped minors drugged at Combs’ parties for the purpose of extorting money.

Quinn Emanuel did not respond to a request for comment on Buzbee’s suit as of Saturday. To date, the Buzbee Law Firm has lodged 20 civil lawsuits against Combs over sexual misconduct claims, according to Buzbee Law Firm lawyer David Fortney.
