Global law firm HFW has expanded its insurance practice in Asia Pacific by appointing Sinyee Ong as a legal director in its Singapore office.

Ong joins the firm from Chua and Partners and has over a decade of experience handling insurance, construction, and commercial disputes across various industries, including hospitality, energy, pharmaceuticals, real estate, and trading.

Ong's addition is expected to strengthen HFW's insurance and reinsurance practice, which now includes 19 partners and more than 65 lawyers globally. The firm has expanded its presence across key regions, particularly South-East Asia, London, and the Middle East.

HFW's global head of insurance and reinsurance, Christopher Foster, stated that Ong's experience will enhance the firm's capabilities in Southeast Asia. Singapore managing partner John Forrester noted that her sector knowledge and international background align with HFW's growth strategy in Singapore.

Ong has experience in international commercial arbitration under ICC, SIAC, and UNCITRAL rules. She has worked across the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and North America and is qualified in New York, Singapore, England & Wales, and Western Australia. She stated that her expertise in insurance and construction aligns with HFW's sector-focused approach.

Her appointment is part of HFW's ongoing global expansion. Since the start of fiscal year 2023, the firm has added more than 50 new partners in locations including Hong Kong, Kuwait City, London, Melbourne, Paris, Perth, Piraeus, Riyadh, Singapore, and Sydney.

"I am very pleased to be joining HFW. My insurance expertise, coupled with my background in construction, aligns seamlessly with the firm's strong sector focus. I am looking forward to working with HFW colleagues and clients across the globe," Ong said.

HFW's Singapore office, established over 35 years ago, has nearly 40 lawyers and a total of 70 professionals. Across the Asia Pacific region, the firm has 64 partners and 280 lawyers, contributing to its global team of 185 partners and 750 lawyers.
