Six law firms made new announcements
Welcome to this week’s roundup of movements among major law firms, in which we sum up significant hires, promotions, departures, and other announcements.
The firm has welcomed a team of lawyers led by Jason Madden and Alexandria Winterburn, including Alissa Saieva-Finnie, Ethan Guthro and Erika Voaklander. The team joined the firm as part of a newly created indigenous practice group that supports and advises clients in navigating modern Aboriginal law across Canada, from ensuring consultation obligations owing to Indigenous peoples are met to implementing equity, partnership and business arrangements that advance reconciliation.
The firm has also welcomed Kate Findlay, Andrew Skinner, Kyle Spampinato and Benji Wiseman. Findlay is a partner and member of the firm’s litigation & dispute resolution group. Skinner is a partner and member of the firm’s real estate group. Spampinato is an associate and member of the firm’s tax and tax controversy/tax litigation groups. Wiseman is an associate and member of the firm's real estate group.
Fillmore Riley has welcomed Fred Thiessen and Tamara Reimer to the firm’s employment and labour practice.
Tax advisor Drew Morier has joined McCarthy Tétrault’s national tax group. He will be based in Toronto and Calgary. Morier has over 20 years of experience advising on cross-border M&A, financing, corporate reorganization and restructuring transactions.

Peter Claman has joined the firm’s real estate group as counsel. He worked as a sole practitioner at Claman Law for over 30 years and has represented owners, purchasers, developers and lenders in large commercial real estate transactions, including the purchase of Mic Mac Mall and the development of the Nova Centre.

MLT Aikins has welcomed Katerina Maragos to the firm’s Calgary office. She maintains a general corporate or commercial practice with a particular focus on Indigenous clients. She advises Indigenous clients across various sectors, including energy and transmission, land development and financing on First Nations lands, share and asset transactions, limited partnerships and joint ventures, economic development, strategic policy and governance.
The firm has welcomed back Stéphane Eljarrat to its national litigation practice group. Eljarrat specializes in criminal investigations and proceedings brought under competition, anti-corruption, anti-money laundering and other federal legislation. He serves as the North American regional representative of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the International Bar Association.
