The annual awards are a platform for recognizing excellence in Canada's legal profession, judge says
Nominations are officially open for the sixth Canadian Law Awards – Lexpert and Canadian Lawyer’s annual celebration of the legal industry’s most outstanding organizations, achievements, and individuals.
Lexpert and Canadian Lawyer welcome nominations for awards across 23 categories. The awards aim to recognize exceptional law firms and in-house departments, deals, cases, initiatives, and individuals.
Nominations close at 11:59 pm EST on January 31, 2025.
As in previous years, winners will be selected via a multi-stage process. Nominees will first be reviewed by the Canadian Law Awards team, which will draw on industry expertise to select a shortlist of Excellence Awardees for each category. Excellence Awardees will be announced in March, and a shortlist of notable deals will be announced in April.
An independent panel of judges will then review the Excellence Awardees and assess and score each according to applicable criteria. The judges’ scores are tallied to produce a winner for each category.
Winners will be celebrated at the Canadian Law Awards, to take place on May 7, 2025, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.
John Murphy, chief executive officer of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, is one of the judges of this year’s Canadian Law Awards and has served as a judge in previous years. Each year, the awards “serve as a platform to recognize the exceptional talent, innovation and dedication that shape the legal profession in Canada,” Murphy says.
“They highlight not only individual excellence but the collective impact of our legal community across the country.”
Nominations must be submitted through the law awards website's nomination page. They must be concise and directly address the criteria for the applicable category.
