The lawyers replace Rosanne Kyle, the Aboriginal law firm's most recent managing partner
Cheryl Sharvit and Peter Millerd have become managing partners at Aboriginal law boutique Mandell Pinder LLP, effective Oct. 1.
The lawyers replace Rosanne Kyle, the most recent managing partner of the Vancouver boutique. Kyle helped firm members transition to a hybrid model following the COVID-19 pandemic, and was recognized as one of Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in 2022.
Millerd told Canadian Lawyer on Wednesday that he is excited about the new role, which presents “an opportunity to improve things.
“There’s a lot at the firm that we want to maintain, but I’m looking forward to finding ways to make things better, both… for delivery of services and also for our team,” he adds.
Millerd says he and Sharvit will maintain their respective practices.
Sharvit has been with Mandell Pinder for nearly 20 years, joining the firm in 2006, according to her LinkedIn profile. She represents clients before appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and in negotiations including those involving natural resource issues.
Lexpert has named Sharvit a leading practitioner in Aboriginal law multiple times.
Millerd joined the firm in 2019. His clients include Indigenous governments and institutions, and his practice focuses on Aboriginal and constitutional litigation.
He also represents First Nations governments before the Specific Claims Tribunal, works with Indigenous governments and organizations seeking court review of administrative actions, and advises First Nations administrative tribunals.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Mandell Pinder said, “We wish to thank Rosanne Kyle, KC, for her excellent leadership in the role of managing partner.”
