End of the road for US$75m legal services disruptor
A Silicon Valley legal services firm founded by the entrepreneur behind video streaming service Twitch, is shutting down.
Justin Kan launched Atrium in 2017 with the aim to be a hybrid software and law firm to be a more efficient provider of legal services. Kan had previously sold the business that became Twitch to Amazon for $970 million but is appears the legal services revolution was a tougher mountain to climb.
In January 2020, it was reported that Atrium was pivoting away from legal services and laying off much of its legal staff. But it seems that this was not enough to continue and Kan tweeted last week that “things didn’t work out as planned.”

A report from TechCrunch says that the separate law firm Atrium Law will continue.
DLA Piper appoints global head of government affairs team
Global firm DLA Piper has appointed Richard Sterneberg to head its government affairs team.
He has more than 20 years of experience working with the EU government and regulatory affairs and will continue to be based in Brussels. The firm has a significant capacity in trade policy, government affairs, and legal and regulatory matters in Brussels, London, and Washington, DC.
Career change? UK Supreme Court is seeking a CEO
The Supreme Court in London is offering a six-figure salary for a new chief executive officer.
The Law Society Gazette reports that the role will include influencing important relationships between the judiciary and the executive while leading the administration of the court into the future.
The job includes managing court operations and leading a team of around 90 staff and contractors.
There is no mention of a requirement for legal qualifications.
