International law firm now available “without the lawyers”
International firm Kennedys has launched a separate technology-driven company called KennedysIQ.

The bespoke platform will combine human and machine intelligence and pull data points from Kennedys, its clients, and third parties, to provide the latest trends and insights. It brings together six tools that clients can switch on or off as required.

Billed as “Kennedys, without the lawyers” the new entity is focused on product development to meet client needs and the firm stresses that it is this focus, rather than internal operating efficiency, that has led to its creation.

“The creation of Kennedys IQ reflects our commitment to true innovation in the insurance and legal services market, and builds upon our proven ability to deliver client-facing software solutions – which we have been doing for the last ten years,” said Richard West, partner and head of Kennedys’ innovations group. “We can see that the future of legal services is not just about legal advice; rather, we are expert strategic advisors who work with clients to optimise their businesses.”

West is a Board Director of Kennedys IQ alongside senior partner Nick Thomas while a governance group also includes managing partner Suzanne Liversidge.

Mike Gilpin, formerly Director of IT, has moved over to become Kennedys IQ’s Commercial Director, with Karim Derrick moving from Head of R&D to Product and Innovation Director.

Latham & Watkins posts another strong year’s results
Latham & Watkins has posted 2019 revenues of U$3.768 billion with profits per equity partner at $3.78 million.

The double-digit growth for the international firm means that equity partners saw their share rise from 6% in 2018 to 9.5% last year.

The firm’s growth was strong in the US but it was a stellar year for the Asia Pacific region which posted its best ever growth.

International Bar Association cancels events amid coronavirus
The spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus means some law firms escalating smart working practices; and it has also meant the cancellation of a key event for the International Bar Association.

The two-day conferences in Japan were due to take place this week, including the association’s first Asia Pacific roundtable.
