He succeeds Sophie Martin, who led the firm for five years
Stein Monast director Pierre-Olivier Ménard Dumas will helm the firm as its new managing partner.
He succeeds Sophie Martin, who led the firm for five years. According to Stein Monast, the structured transition commenced in March 2024.
“The partners are delighted to welcome Me Ménard Dumas to the firm’s leadership. His creativity, rigor and commitment to excellence are invaluable assets in guiding Stein Monast towards its future ambitions,” Martin said in a statement.
Ménard Dumas became a director at Stein Monast on April 29, 2021. He said in a statement that private practice was “currently undergoing significant changes”.
As a partner with the firm, he practises primarily in transport law. He is well-versed in French and English and also has experience with matters involving administrative and civil law, cilvil liability, and commercial litigation.
His clients have included surface carriers, shippers, warehouse operators, third-party logistics providers, owner operators and lessors or lessees of equipment. He has tackled claims for cargo loss, delay or damage and unpaid freight charges.

He praised Martin as “is a mentor with inspiring leadership, an experienced administrator and a rigorous tax specialist.”
Once Ménard Dumas takes over, Marin will concentrate on her tax practice.
She first took on the managing partner position in 2020, guiding Stein Monast through the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenges. During her tenure, the firm’s headcount rose by over 18 percent and revenue growth was at almost 47 percent.
Stein Monast is a Quebec-based firm established in 1957. The firm currently employs 75 lawyers and 8 notaries across 17 practice areas.
