Hello and welcome. I'm your host, Brodie Lawson, and today we are thrilled to be joined by Carr Hatch, a Partner at Thompson Rogers, one of the firms recognized in Canadian Lawyers Top Personal Injury Boutiques for 2025. Carr, thank you for being here and congratulations.

Carr Hatch  00:00:23
Oh, thanks a lot. It's great to be here. It's really nice to meet you as well.

Brodie Lawson  00:00:28
Let's start with the big news, Thompson Rogers, being named one of Canadian Lawyers Top Personal Injury Boutiques for 2025 what does this recognition mean to you and your team?

Carr Hatch  00:00:38
Well, it remains a great deal to us. It's really nice to be consistently recognized year after year for the work we do for our clients. I think this is the 15th year in a row that we've been on this list. So you know, consistency is something that we strive for in our firm, along with excellence. Of course, our firm, Thompson Rogers, we've been on Bay Street in Toronto serving our clients since 1935 and in the past year alone, we've had many precedent setting trial results, including the largest damages award for punitive damages in Canadian history. So these type of results have been taking place for nearly 100 years here, and it's nice to be recognized for that.

Brodie Lawson  00:01:22
What do you think sets Thompson Rogers apart when it comes to advocating for personal injury clients, particularly in today's evolving legal landscape?

Carr Hatch  00:01:31
I would say our culture, we have a really good culture here, built on success for our clients, is the absolutely the most important thing with our culture. We have outstanding mentorship, which is passed on from retired lawyer to senior partner to associate to articling student. And we also have significant resources devoted to technology, a very important thing in 2025 in the legal landscape. And we've devoted significant resources to that to make sure every lawyer here has the best resources available for their clients.

Brodie Lawson  00:02:07
Personal Injury Law is obviously incredibly personal and it's often very emotional. So how does the firm prioritize building trust and relationships with clients going through some of really the most challenging times of their lives?

Carr Hatch  00:02:20
The lawyer client relationship is the most important thing for our firm. We make sure our clients understand the process at all times. And I think of the numerous cases I've had where a family member has unfortunately lost a loved one and when, when those families place their trust in me, it means a great deal for me, and, you know, drives me to do my best for them, and I make sure that they get top possible care that they need. We have very significant resources in the healthcare community here. You know, we know every type of expert doctor or treating doctor, healthcare worker there is, and we've seen pretty much every type of situation before, so we make sure our clients just get elite healthcare to help them get better as best they can.

Brodie Lawson  00:03:12
This year is particularly special for Thompson Rogers, marking your 90th anniversary, which is truly a remarkable milestone. Can you tell us a bit about the firm's legacy and how its history shapes the work that you do today?

Carr Hatch  00:03:27
For sure, we're very proud of our 90 year pedigree. It's something that's very unique for law firms in Canada. We now do personal injury work, medical malpractice, family law and municipal municipal law, and we really have stood the test of time and are thriving. Our firm over these 90 years has produced so many judges, so many politicians, so many partners who have moved on to lead other firms in different industries that we do not cover. And you know, we really see those people who have succeeded as a real badge of honor for our firm. So we're very proud of our history.

Brodie Lawson  00:04:09
For individuals or families seeking personal injury counsel. What should they look for when choosing the right firm or lawyer to represent them?

Carr Hatch  00:04:17
I think they should look for lawyers and law firms with tremendous experience, histories of success, they should potential clients. Should ask the lawyers whether they have handled a case similar to theirs. And when I meet with potential new clients, I always invite them to speak to some of my old clients, if that's something that they would like to do, just to build that comfort right from the beginning.

Brodie Lawson  00:04:43
Carr, it's been a pleasure speaking with you. Congratulations again to you and everyone at Thompson Rogers, not only for being recognized among the top personal injury boutiques of 2025 but also for celebrating 90 years of outstanding service and advocacy. Thank you for joining us.
