On May 30, 2023, Hillcore successfully acquired Thompson Construction Group, a prominent heavy civil contractor based in Spruce Grove, Alberta, with a 59-year history. Established in 1964 in Barrhead, Alberta, Thompson has grown significantly, now boasting over 1,500 employees and 2,000 pieces of equipment. The company specializes in heavy civil earth moving, infrastructure construction, oil sands reclamation, plant construction, and workplace safety. This acquisition, valued at an undisclosed amount, sees Hillcore partnering with Thompson's senior management to continue its tradition of operational excellence and expansion through capital investments, acquisitions, and geographic growth.

Russell Negus, Hillcore's Chairman, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership and the potential for growth, welcoming Thompson’s employees into Hillcore’s larger family of over 3,500.
