GraceKennedy Financial Group Limited (GK) successfully acquired Scotia Insurance Caribbean Limited (SICL), now rebranded as GK Life. The acquisition, announced in August 2022, was finalized after meeting regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. GK Life, already operating in seven Caribbean markets, will expand its offerings to include credit protection insurance in five additional territories where SICL was present: Barbados, Belize, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, and the Turks & Caicos Islands, bringing its total to 12 markets. This move aligns with GK's strategic goal to grow its insurance business across the Caribbean, as noted by Group CEO Don Wehby. The transaction enhances GK's insurance portfolio, which includes life, health, property, casualty, and brokerage operations across various markets. Deputy CEO Steven Whittingham highlighted GK's position as a significant pan-Caribbean insurer, poised for further growth in line with GK's 2030 Vision.
