On March 15, 2022, Matrox® announced that it had signed a definitive share purchase agreement for Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA) to acquire its Matrox Imaging division. However, the Matrox Video division will not be part of the sale and will continue to be owned by Matrox President and Co-Founder Lorne Trottier. Both divisions will maintain their head offices in Montreal. Lorne Trottier highlighted the transaction as an avenue for Matrox Imaging to expedite its strategic goals through Zebra Technologies' global reach and strong presence in machine vision and industrial scanning. He also emphasized the focus on continued innovation and growth for the Matrox Video division. Zebra Technologies, known for its automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) solutions, aims to enhance its Machine Vision Business Unit with Matrox Imaging's expertise. Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Zebra, expressed confidence that the acquisition would elevate their machine vision solutions. The transaction, which is still subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions, was not just a strategic fit but also aligned with the shared emphasis on innovation and employee development between the two companies.
