Amynta Group acquires Ambridge Group from Brit, a subsidiary of Fairfax

On January 9, 2023, Amynta Group, in partnership with Brit Ltd, a Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited subsidiary, announced the acquisition of Ambridge Group, Brit's Managing General Underwriter (MGU) operations, for $400 million (C$ 540 million). This transaction also includes a multi-year agreement for Brit to remain a significant capacity partner to Ambridge. The deal, encompassing Ambridge's operations in the U.S., the United Kingdom, and Germany, is set to close in the second quarter of 2023, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

Ambridge, a leading global MGU, was founded 22 years ago by Jess Pryor and Jeff Cowhey, who will maintain their leadership roles. The company specializes in diverse insurance coverages and manages over $600 million in gross premium written, primarily for Brit and other global insurers.

Robert Giammarco, CEO of Amynta Group, expressed excitement over the acquisition, emphasizing Ambridge's quality and success. The addition of Ambridge is expected to significantly expand Amynta's MGA business, now overseeing more than $2 billion in premiums, and enhance their presence in the E&S market.

Jess Pryor highlighted the positive implications of this acquisition for Ambridge's growth and evolution, praising Amynta's focus on entrepreneurial MGUs and their strong market relationships.

Martin Thompson, CEO of Brit, acknowledged Ambridge's achievements and noted the timing as ideal for Brit to realize its investment value. He emphasized the ongoing partnership between Ambridge, Amynta, and Brit, anticipating a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship.
