On May 3, 2023, Montrose Environmental Group, Inc. announced its plan to acquire all shares of Matrix Solutions Inc., a leading Canadian environmental and engineering consulting firm. The transaction, pending approval from Matrix shareholders and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, was slated for completion in the second quarter of 2023. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Matrix, established in 1984 and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, is an employee-owned company with 570 staff members. It has become a prominent provider of environmental solutions in Canada, offering services to over 1100 clients across both private and public sectors. Its expertise includes Contaminated Site Assessment, Remediation and Reclamation, Environmental Sciences and Regulatory Planning, and Water Resources Engineering and Management. Matrix operates from 19 offices across several Canadian provinces.

Doug Matthys, President of Montrose’s Consulting & Engineering division, remarked that Matrix will form the base of their Canadian consulting business, enhancing their environmental engineering and service capabilities across North America. Holly Elrick, Matrix's President and CEO, expressed excitement about joining Montrose, noting their shared commitment to environmental stewardship and the potential for enhanced global collaboration.
