On Feb. 22, 2023, B. Riley Financial, Inc. announced its acquisition of the corporate division of Farber Group, a Toronto-based restructuring and business advisory firm. Farber specializes in corporate restructuring, M&A corporate finance, wealth management, and several other services for various stakeholders in Canada. With this acquisition, the corporate division of Farber will be integrated into B. Riley Advisory Services. The acquisition brings 45 staff members, including 16 restructuring professionals, to B. Riley, leading to the establishment of the Canadian practice named B. Riley Farber. Notably, Farber's consumer and tax divisions remain independent. Ian Ratner, co-CEO of B. Riley Advisory Services, and Gary Lifman, Senior Managing Director at Farber, both expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, emphasizing the longstanding relationship and the growth potential from combining resources. The merger presents new financial consulting services, enhancing opportunities for clients in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Farber's expertise in interim management and executive search will augment B. Riley's offerings, providing clients with expanded support, whether for growth or distressed situations. The combined capabilities mean Farber clients will now access B. Riley's appraisal, valuation, and other services, and also avail enhanced corporate finance capabilities in Canada. Both firms, as founding members of BTG Global Advisory, can better collaborate on cross-border engagements. B. Riley's growth trajectory includes its prior acquisitions of GlassRatner in 2018 and Alderney Advisors in 2021. The legal advisors for this deal were Arnall Golden Gregory LLP for B. Riley and Goodmans LLP for Farber. The transaction's financial details were not revealed.
