Centerra Gold Inc. completed the acquisition of Gemfield Resources LLC, which owns the Goldfield District Project, for CAD272.9 million (US$206.5 million) from Waterton Nevada Splitter, LLC. Goldfield, a late-stage development project in Nevada, features an open-pit, heap leach operation with three known deposits. Centerra anticipates that Goldfield will provide low-cost production and capitalize on their expertise from the Öksüt Mine. The project also offers significant exploration upside in a historic mining district. Key aspects of the deal include the addition of a high-quality development project to Centerra’s portfolio, an improved geographic profile with an increased North American presence, and a short construction period with substantial de-risking already in place. Centerra aims to refine technical studies, with a resource estimate expected in the first half of 2023, followed by a feasibility study. Centerra’s President and CEO, Scott Perry, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting the operational and financial strengths it brings. He emphasized the potential for Goldfield to generate meaningful cash flow and the company's ability to pursue additional shareholder-friendly initiatives. TD Securities Inc. provided financial advice to Centerra, while Stikeman Elliott LLP and Snell & Wilmer LLP served as legal advisors. More information on the acquisition was made available through a conference call and presentation slides on Centerra’s website, and an audio recording of the call will be accessible until March 8, 2022.
