On Dec. 20, 2022, Montreal-based Courchesne Larose Ltd. ("Courchesne Larose Group"), a leading figure in the Canadian fresh fruit and vegetable industry, announced a major investment into its share capital by Sagard Private Equity Canada ("Sagard PE"). This investment, in partnership with the Routhier Monette family's 3rd and 4th generations and Courchesne Larose's management team, aims to fuel the company's expansion. Additionally, Fondaction and Roynat Equity Partners have joined Sagard PE in this endeavor. The Courchesne Larose Group comprises several entities, including Aliments Bercy, Krops Imports, Marcan Packaging, Dynapro Transport, Maroc Fruit Overseas Company, and Green Earth Produce Trading. Alain Routhier, Co-president of the Courchesne Larose Group, expressed gratitude for their 600 employees and emphasized the preservation of the family culture central to the company's longstanding success. With Sagard PE's support, Michel Routhier, another Co-president, highlighted plans to replicate their unique business model beyond Quebec and the Maritimes, broadening their market reach. In the backdrop of this transaction, Houlihan Lokey provided exclusive financial advisement to the Courchesne Larose Group, while DALAROY Conseil advised the Routhier Monette family. Multiple lenders, including the National Bank of Canada, CIBC, and Scotiabank, facilitated the investment. Established over 100 years ago, the Courchesne Larose Group, a family business, employs over 600 personnel, offering a vast distribution network of fresh produce in Eastern Canada. They source globally and serve clients across Canada and the American East Coast. This transaction closed on January 23, 2023. Transaction value was not disclosed.
