Bird Global, Inc. ("Bird"), a prominent figure in electric transportation, announced a strategic transaction on December 20, 2022, which was completed on January 03, 2023. The deal was aimed at bolstering Bird's financial position. Through this, Bird secured $30 million (CAD 43,676,480) from convertible notes, inclusive of personal investments from Travis VanderZanden, Bird’s Founder & Chair, and CEO Shane Torchiana. Owing to surging investment interest, Bird plans to increase this fundraising initiative, with hopes of sealing additional funds within the quarter. In a bid to expand its operational reach, Bird acquired Bird Canada's micromobility operations, set to be integrated with Bird Global in the current quarter. This acquisition promises not only to bring in profitable operations but also to solidify Bird’s standing in North American micromobility. Additionally, Bird introduced new leadership with expertise in growing organizations profitably. Shane Torchiana expressed confidence in the company’s future, emphasizing the enhanced liquidity and welcoming the Bird Canada team to amplify the firm's global impact. The entire transaction received unanimous support from Bird’s Board of Directors. Founded in 2017 by Travis VanderZanden, Bird has been at the forefront of offering eco-friendly e-transport solutions globally and has recorded over 175 million rides to date.
