Champion Petfoods to sell to Mars Petcare
On November 1, 2022, Mars Petcare, a division of Mars, Incorporated, intends to acquire global pet food manufacturer, Champion Petfoods, from an investment group led by Bedford Capital and Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan. Champion Petfoods, known for its ORIJEN and ACANA brands, has championed biologically appropriate pet foods for over 35 years and is trusted in more than 90 countries. Ikdeep Singh, the Global President of Mars Pet Nutrition, expressed his excitement about incorporating Champion Petfoods, renowned for its quality natural pet food, into the Mars family. Mars Petcare, backed by the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, has a rich 50-year history in pet health research. This merger promises to offer pet owners a diverse range of quality food products. Champion Petfoods' brands, produced in company-operated facilities in Canada and the US, will enrich Mars Petcare's premium pet food offerings and expand their presence in pet specialty, independent retail, and online channels. Blaine McPeak, CEO of Champion Petfoods, praised the company's employees and expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Mars Petcare. Although transaction details remain undisclosed, completion is anticipated in the first half of 2023. Advisory roles: J.P.
