On December 13, 2022, PowerFlex, an affiliate of EDF Renewables North America and a top provider of solar, storage, and electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has received a $135,444,500 ($100 million) investment from Manulife Investment Management (Manulife IM). Following the transaction, Manulife IM will possess a minority stake in PowerFlex, secure a position on its Board of Directors, and acquire a portfolio of current operational assets as a foundation for financing future projects. EDF Renewables will maintain majority ownership of PowerFlex. The funding will be channeled into PowerFlex X, PowerFlex's unique line of software and hardware that integrates onsite energy assets into a single digital platform. This move will expedite the rollout of onsite solar, storage, and EV charging in response to the surge in customer demand due to sustainability commitments, state renewable targets, and supportive federal legislation. Raphael Declercq, PowerFlex's CEO, emphasized the investment's role in enhancing their digital products and their vision to amplify the electrification of the transport sector while backing a more decentralized and resilient grid. Pradeep Killamsetty of Manulife IM highlighted the robust growth potential of PowerFlex’s intelligent solutions. PowerFlex, which consolidated its offerings under its brand in 2021, is a major developer of commercial solar in the U.S., boasting over 400 MW in service and roughly 10,000 chargers in operation. Their clientele features notable names like Los Angeles International Airport, PepsiCo, and Bloomberg L.P.
