BRP to buy part of Kongsberg Automotive’s Shawinigan operations for $136 million

On August 9, 2022, BRP Inc. disclosed its decision to acquire the majority of assets linked to Kongsberg Automotive ASA's powersports business, KA Shawinigan, located in Shawinigan, Quebec. Recognized for its prowess in electronic and mechatronic product development, KA Shawinigan has been a consistent supplier for BRP. The acquisition's intent is to align with BRP's future product strategies, especially its electrification aspirations. José Boisjoli, BRP's President and CEO, emphasized the strong bond they've cultivated with KA Shawinigan over the years. The deal is expected to enhance BRP's expertise in mechatronics and reinforce their innovation capacities. BRP anticipates welcoming over 300 specialized employees from KA Shawinigan, already adept in crafting components crucial to BRP's product assortment. Joerg Buchheim, KA's President & CEO, acknowledged the companies' longstanding collaborative relationship, noting KA components' essential role in numerous BRP offerings. He expressed enthusiasm about the transaction, stating it would grant KA the liquidity to explore novel markets, spearhead innovation, and uncover fresh business development avenues. Boisjoli further stated that incorporating KA Shawinigan's operations would augment BRP's agility in navigating supply chain obstacles and optimizing productivity. The acquisition, contingent on standard closing conditions, is projected to conclude by this fiscal year's third quarter. BRP has voiced intentions to extend employment to KA Shawinigan's workforce included in the acquisition and maintain the business's operations in its existing Shawinigan location.
