WSP Global to acquire UK-based RPS Global for $921 million
On August 8, 2022, WSP announced an agreement to acquire RPS Group plc, a UK-based consulting firm with global operations and a workforce of 5,000, generating revenues of about CA$921 million ($875 million). Established in 1970, RPS has a reputation for environmental and social commitment, offering specialized services to both government and private sector clients, with a focus on front-end consulting. The firm has received accolades for its sustainability initiatives, ranking first in the UK for climate change and energy consulting in 2019/2020 and earning recognition as a "carbon champion" in 2021.
Alexandre L’Heureux, President and CEO of WSP, emphasized that the acquisition aligns with WSP's Global Strategic Action Plan, enhancing their platform and complementing the recent agreement to purchase the Environmental and Infrastructure (E&I) business of John Wood Group plc. L’Heureux noted that these transactions would expand WSP's workforce to approximately 70,000, including 23,000 environmental experts worldwide. This growth underscores WSP's commitment to leading in the ESG sector, especially in water and energy, steering the transition towards a greener and low-carbon environment.
