On October 17, 2024, PPG agreed to sell its U.S. and Canada architectural coatings business to American Industrial Partners for $550 million USD ($748 million CAD). The sale, expected to close by early 2025, was part of PPG’s strategy to streamline its portfolio. Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC served as financial advisor, with Hogan Lovells U.S. LLP advising PPG and Ropes & Gray LLP advising AIP.

Alongside this divestment, PPG announced a cost-reduction plan aiming for $175 million USD ($238 million CAD) in annual savings, impacting 1,800 jobs mainly in Europe. The coatings business represented $2 billion USD ($2.72 billion CAD) of PPG’s 2023 sales and was set to improve the company's profit margins.
