On October 2, 2024, Altor Equity Partners, a Swedish asset manager, successfully acquired CCM Hockey, one of Canada's oldest hockey equipment manufacturers, for $600 million, including debt. The Stockholm-based firm, known for owning Rossignol Group, outbid various private equity funds and sports companies to purchase CCM from Birch Hill Equity Partners, which had owned CCM since 2017. Montreal-based CCM holds around 35% of the global market for hockey equipment and has been operational for over a century.

Altor plans to grow CCM’s brand by expanding into women's hockey and engaging first-generation immigrant communities in North America and Europe. The company intends to enhance CCM’s marketing and product development, with CCM management retaining a significant ownership stake. The company's headquarters will remain in Montreal.

Birch Hill earned an 11-fold return on its investment, having significantly improved CCM’s product offerings, especially in women's hockey gear. CCM generated approximately $70 million in EBITDA last year. Altor aims to elevate CCM to the No. 1 skate supplier, surpassing rival Bauer Hockey, which currently dominates with a 60% market share.
