On July 1, 2024, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation successfully completed a US$8 billion "merger of equals" with Cedar Fair, L.P. The newly combined entity, operating under the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation name, is now the largest regional amusement park operator in North America, with 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and nine resort properties across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Cedar Fair unitholders received one share of Six Flags stock for each unit held, while former Six Flags shareholders received 0.58 shares for each of their existing shares.

This merger brings Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan, Ontario, under the Six Flags brand, making it one of the key Canadian assets within the portfolio. No immediate rebranding or changes to park operations were announced.

Perella Weinberg Partners acted as exclusive financial advisor to Cedar Fair, with Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP and Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP providing legal counsel. Former Six Flags was advised by Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC and Kirkland & Ellis LLP
