On July 28, 2023, Roquette, a global leader in plant-based ingredients and pharmaceutical excipients, completed the acquisition of Qualicaps Co. Ltd from Mitsubishi Chemical Group on October 24, 2023. This strategic move aimed to enhance Roquette’s position in the pharmaceutical industry by expanding its global footprint and diversifying its oral dosage solutions. Qualicaps, a major producer of hard capsules, operates manufacturing and R&D sites in several countries, including Canada, which strengthens Roquette's presence in the region.

Cleary Gottlieb represented Roquette in the acquisition, with Bennett Jones serving as Canadian counsel. The Mitsubishi Chemical Group was advised by leading Japanese law firm Nishimura & Asahi, and Peli Partners also provided counsel on the transfer of all shares in Qualicaps to Roquette. The acquisition aligns with Roquette’s strategic growth plan, enabling it to better serve the pharmaceutical sector with an enriched portfolio of excipients and capsule solutions.
