On May 31, 2022, Saint-Gobain announced the definitive agreement to acquire Kaycan, Ltd., a family-owned manufacturer and distributor of exterior building materials in Canada and the United States, for CA$1.2 billion (US$928 million) in cash. Kaycan, with CA$645 million (US$472 million) in revenues, operates 12 manufacturing plants and employs around 1,300 people. This acquisition positions Saint-Gobain as the top siding player in Canada and expands its vinyl offerings in the U.S., adding aluminum and engineered wood solutions. The deal is expected to be value-creative by year three post-closing, with Saint-Gobain projecting significant cost synergies totaling approximately CA$41 million (US$30 million) by then. These synergies are expected to arise from SG&A reductions, procurement economies of scale, and manufacturing and logistics optimizations. The transaction, which reinforces Saint-Gobain's leadership in light and sustainable construction in North America, is in line with their "Grow & Impact" strategy and is expected to close by the end of 2022, subject to customary closing conditions, including antitrust approvals. The acquisition is part of Saint-Gobain’s recent series of investments in North America aimed at expanding capacity, reducing emissions, and creating jobs across various locations, alongside the planned purchase of GCP Applied Technologies for CA$3.14 billion ($2.3 billion).
