On April 1, 2024, Corix Infrastructure (U.S.), Inc. and SouthWest Water Company successfully completed the merger of their water and wastewater businesses, resulting in the formation of Nexus Water Group, Inc. ("Nexus Water Group"). The merger, which was a transaction of equals, created a leading regulated water and wastewater utility serving over 1.3 million people across North America, including operations in Canada through Corix Infrastructure. Nexus Water Group operates more than 670 water systems and 360 wastewater systems, employing over 1,300 professionals.
Rob MacLean, President and CEO of Nexus Water Group, emphasized that the merger combines the strengths of both companies to form a "best-in-class utility" committed to delivering top-tier service with a local focus. MacLean highlighted that the name "Nexus" reflects the company's commitment to fostering personal connections through essential services.
In this transaction, McCarthy Tétrault acted as Canadian counsel to the private investment fund behind Corix Infrastructure, Inc., while Milbank LLP represented SouthWest Water Company. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
