On July 4, 2024, Credit Union Central of Manitoba (CUCM), Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan (SaskCentral), and Credit Union Central of Alberta (Alberta Central) reached a definitive agreement to sell the business of Celero, a leading IT solutions provider for Canadian credit unions and financial institutions, to CGI (NYSE: GIB, TSX: GIB.A). This acquisition, part of CGI’s strategic growth plan, aims to position the Canadian credit union system as a technological leader in financial services. The transaction included the transfer of Celero's core banking, digital banking, managed services, integration, and security services, along with the majority of Celero’s employees, to CGI.

The decision followed a thorough review by Celero’s owners, who identified CGI as the ideal partner to sustain and scale the company’s operations. Curtis Wennberg, CEO of CUCM and Chair of Celero, highlighted that the deal would create new opportunities for growth and innovation. The acquisition allows CGI to deepen its presence in Canada’s credit union sector, enhancing its capabilities and ensuring service continuity for Celero’s clients.
