On August 13, 2024, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) announced its acquisition of a significant stake in Tallgrass Energy, investing approximately US$843 million (C$1.2 billion). Tallgrass, headquartered in Denver, Colorado, operated over 10,000 miles of pipelines across 14 U.S. states and was engaged in both traditional energy infrastructure and initiatives focused on CO2, hydrogen, renewable fuels, and decarbonized power assets. This acquisition aligned with CPP Investments’ strategy to partner with Blackstone, Tallgrass's existing investor, to support the company’s dual focus on energy needs and decarbonization efforts.

As of March 31, 2024, CPP Investments' Sustainable Energies group managed approximately C$34.2 billion in net assets, including investments in renewables, conventional energy, and emerging technologies.
