On May 11, 2022, Slate Asset Management, a global investment firm, has announced its acquisition of Presima Inc., a Montreal-based investment manager with $1.1 billion in assets under management. This acquisition, which is part of Slate's expansion of its investment management business initiated in 2018, will add a new office in Montreal and 19 professionals to Slate's team. Presima, established in 1999, is known for its global real estate securities and has a notable track record in the industry. It offers a range of investment solutions including global REITs, yield-focused strategies, real assets, and listed infrastructure portfolios, with a significant emphasis on ESG risk management. Blair Welch, Founding Partner at Slate, praised Presima’s global offerings and data infrastructure. Fraser McEwen, Partner at Slate Securities, sees the merger as an opportunity to integrate Presima’s infrastructure and client solutions into Slate’s public market strategies. Marc-André Flageole, Interim CEO at Presima, anticipates that Slate's resources will enable growth and broaden client offerings. The deal, which enhances Slate’s North American footprint, is expected to close by the end of Q2 2022, pending regulatory approval. Stikeman Elliott LLP and McCarthy Tétrault LLP were the legal advisors for Presima and Slate, respectively. The transaction's financial terms were not disclosed.
