On January 25, 2022, Certn, a leader in background screening solutions, announced the acquisition of Credence, a UK-based provider of global background checks. This acquisition aimed to diversify Certn's offerings and extend its geographic reach into the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) markets. Credence, operational since 2009, served a diverse client base, including top-tier professional services, stage companies, and major sporting organizations.

The acquisition promised several benefits for customers, such as faster and more comprehensive background checks, improved candidate experience, and an expanded range of services with consistent quality across geographies. Key executives, including Hedley Clark and Doug Beavis from Credence, and Andrew McLeod from Certn, highlighted the synergy between the two companies in enhancing the reliability and user experience of background screening processes.

Legal advisors for the transaction included Taylor Wessing, led by Philip Shepherd and Nell Cooper, and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt for Certn. Cripps, along with Canadian-based Farris LLP, advised the shareholders of Credence.
